NCDC announced 14 new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria and apologize for wrong result in bauchi.

The Nigeria Center of Disease Control NCDC last night announced 14 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria. Of the 14 new cases, 13 were recorded in Lagos while one in Delta. The agency also used the opportunity to apologise for the wrong result it released for Bauchi state on Wednesday. According to the agency, only 6 confirmed cases of Coronavirus are in Bauchi and not 8 as tabulated in their results released on Wednesday. US threatens to block China Telecom from America market.

The United States of America threatened on Thursday, April 9, to cut off Beijing-controlled China Telecom from serving the US market because of legal and security risks, the Justice Department announced. A recommendation by the government’s top departments, including Defense, State and Homeland Security, said that the Federal Communications Commission should “revoke and terminate” all authorizations for the Chinese giant’s US subsidiary, China Telecom (Americas), to provide international telecommunications services to and from the United States. "The Executive Branch agencies identified substantial and unacceptable national security and law enforcement risks associated with China Telecom’s operations, which render the FCC authorizations inconsistent with the public interest," the Justice Department said in a statement. Chad embassy writes Nigeria over fake video on Boko Haram war.

Chad's embassy has written Nigeria over some videos shared online, which it said was taken out of context and alleging inaction or non-participation of the Nigerian army in the fight against Boko Haram. The Chadian embassy stated that some of the videos are misleading and dates back to 2015 and with dubious origins.  The statement reads;  The Embassy of the Republic of Chad to the Federal Republic of Nigeria hereby informs the public opinion that for some time now, misleading videos and images dating back to 2015, with dubious origins have been circulated on the web and in some online or print media designed to wrongly attribute to His Excellency Idriss Deby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad, completely distorted remarks, taken out of its context and alleging inaction or non-participation of the Nigerian army in the fight against Boko Haram. Oyo state governor, Seyi Making recovers from Coronavirus.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has recovered from Coronavirus. Makinde, who revealed a week ago that he tested positive to the deadly virus, disclosed that he has beat it and his second test came back negative. He announced this via his official Twitter account. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone, especially Professor Alonge Temitope, the Acting Head of Oyo State COVID-19 task force. He added that he will resume his duties today April 6. He wrote: "I am deeply moved by your prayers and support throughout this period. I am so thankful. This evening, I received my second negative test result for COVID-19. I especially thank Prof Temitope Alonge, who acted in my stead as Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force. "I am also grateful to all members of the Task Force for their cooperation during this time. I will be resuming my responsibility as Head of the Task Force from tomorrow."

Coronavirus: Violate restriction order, go to jail - Niger state government tells residents.

The Niger state government says residents of the state who fail to respect the stay at home order, risk being fined or imprisoned or both in accordance with the extant laws of the state. Disclosing this at a press briefing on Sunday April 5th, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the State Action Committee on COVID-19, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, said the new measure became necessary following the gross disrespect for the appeals and directives on social distancing and social gatherings by the people as the only precautionary measures against the spread of Coronavirus.  According to Matane, it became imperative to go beyond appeals and directives to contain the spread of the highly infectious disease in order to avoid impending health and economic calamity of unimaginable proportions in the State. Coronavirus: 140 Lebonese evacuated out of Nigeria.

Following the Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, the Lebanese government today evacuated one hundred and forty Lebanese nationals via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. They were flown out of the Lagos airport by Middle East Airlines (MEA) after undergoing series of screening. The aircraft which flew into the country under humanitarian arrangement, departed the country on Sunday evening, April 5. Earlier today, 37 Egyptians were evacuated out of the country through the Sam Mbakwe International airport.

Tiger at a zoo in New York City tests positive for Coronavirus.

A 4-year-old Malayan tiger at a Bronx Zoo in New York City has tested positive for COVID-19, in what is believed to be the first known infection in an animal in the U.S. or the first tiger anywhere in the World.  The announcement was made on by the federal officials and the zoo after a test was conducted in Iowa by the USDA's National Veterinary Services Laboratory. The tiger, Nadia, was exposed by a zoo worker who wasn't yet showing symptoms, the zoo said. The zoo says "appropriate preventative measures" have been implemented to care for the cats and minimize further exposure.'' According to the Wildlife Conservation Society, six other large cats and three African lions are also showing Coronavirus symptoms, but they are all expected to recover. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami has reacted to the controversy 5G network has ignited on Nigeria's social media space in the last few days.  In an interview on Channels Television’s News At 10 on Sunday April 5, the Minister said he is yet to see any research linking 5G network with Coronavirus amid the discussion on the safety of the network.  Pantami dismissed speculations about the network and its safety, and further stated that the government does not take decisions based on online speculations. Nigeria doctors reject country's plan to invite Chinese medical team to help fight Coronavirus.

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has rejected plans by the Federal Government to invite and 18-member Chinese medical team to help Nigeria in her fight against the deadly coronavirus. The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, said on Friday that gifts of medical supplies were being expected from China, organised by a group of Chinese companies working in Nigeria. He added that  an 18 man team of Chinese medical experts will come along with the flight. Ehanire said: " A special cargo aircraft shall leave Nigeria in a few days to collect the items, which include commodities, PPE and ventilators. Of great interest is an 18 man team of Chinese medical experts, including doctors, nurses and public health advisers, who shall come along with the flight."
